some greenflowerthoughts
I hope you’re having a lovely day!
I want to use this website to share any free online fiction I write in the future. I love ao3 and will continue using it for all things fanfiction, but having a separate space for my original stories is really compelling to me.
I do have a literary agent and I’m working on separate original manuscripts that I look forward to sharing with the world via traditional publishing, but there’s something special about online fiction. I like the idea of going with the flow and finding a way to share my stories and writing that feels right for me, even if it’s not conventional.
In addition to the novel I’m working on for trad pub, i’m also tinkering with a novel-length science fiction that feels suited for the online fiction space. When the story is done I may try to trad publish it, but it’s very specific (and possibly hard to market lol) in a way I’m not sure I want to be changed or filtered. It will be a romantic space opera in the tradition of Star Wars, with many planets and worlds and ships. The vibes are similar to my most recent one shot KING EATS FIRST (mythological and alternate fairytale historical in tone, cruel monarchs and power dynamics, wartime vs peacetime law). One never knows how things will go, but I’m presently attached to the idea of posting it online here.
I’ve been paying attention to all the recent discourse around physical media and ways to build a community and share art off of social media platforms. Someone sent me a video about a writer who does a snail mail club, and I thought that was deeply cool (and a lot of work, I was in awe of her). I started having this little idea about a romance story told through fictional love letters and diary entries, whether it be through snail mail or this website/emails.
Also, I just love the idea of personal websites and corners of the internet. There’s something inherently cozy about it. I want having a website to give me the same feeling as playing Neopets on a winter break morning in 2005 lol.
That coziness and nicheness is something that I think can get a bit lost with centralized social media. I think AI is also taking it away from us a bit. One of my favorite ways to do research on a new topic has always been to explore the hyper-specific blogs, communities and forums that crop up all over cyberspace around it. Whenever I see someone learning about something using AI, I get so sad thinking about the big world they’re missing out on by not exploring the internet. I really like the idea of having a little bit of that in my own life and attached to the way I show up online.
